Jamaica; the Ultimate Relaxation Location - Travel - Destinations

What do you think of when you hear the word Jamaica? Do you think of the Caribbean? Do you think of Reggae music? Do you think of palm trees and white beaches and friendly natives? Jamaica is all of this, and yet it is so very much more.

An island nation, Jamaica is not very big; just 145 miles long by 50 miles wide, but the cultural punch that it packs will knock you out of your work-a-day mentality so fast that if you get there at noon, you'll be completely relaxed by supper time. Truly, Jamaica is the ultimate relaxation location.

The third largest island in the entire Caribbean, Jamaica was laid claim to by the Spanish (and called Santiago) it became a British colony, eventually gaining its independence, although not until 1962. Since it achieved independence it has turned into a tourist destination with cities such as Kingston and Ocho Rios and Montego Bay vying for the patronage of tourists who come from all over the world to enjoy the white sandy beaches and the laid back atmosphere and its tropical climate that lends itself very well to the activities that make it so very famous.

Just consider the scenery; whether it is the remnants of Port Royal (which was swallowed by the ocean during an earthquake) or some of the fabulous beaches such as Seven Mile Beach in Negril where you can kick back in the sun and play in the surf, or Winefred Beach in Port Antonio where you can go horseback riding through the waves; Jamaica definitely has something for everyone.Even if beaches are not your scene, Jamaica is resplendent with scenic beauties as well. You can visit YS Falls in St. Elizabeth whose breathtaking plunge is a phenomenal background for picnicking. Or you can go hiking in the more temperate climates of the Blue Mountains outside of Kingston where you can explore the tropical forests to your heart's content.

If you'd rather just take it easy and be pampered, you can check in to Blue Hole Mineral Spring Resort which is located just 25 minutes southeast of Negril. Here you'll find a restful resort community with spa treatments in scenic settings that will have you thinking that you've walked onto a television set.

No matter if you are shopping in the Montego Bay Bazaars or relaxing by the pool of one of the dozens of luxurious resorts on the Island, or even if you are simply kicking back at one of the many beachside bars where you can enjoy hot music and cold drinks with people from all over the world; you'll find that Jamaica definitely has what it takes to help you unwind and enjoy a vacation unlike any other that you have ever had, and one that will most definitely follow through on its promise of sending you back to your work-a-day world rested and refreshed.
